Yesterday Google gave a charming tribute to the animator and cartoonist Winsor McCay. Well before Disney, McCay made the first animation “Gertie the Dinosaur” (1911) and another one featuring a house taking off and flying around the world (the world’s first animated map I once claimed in a paper, although he had the earth rotating the wrong way!).
Google made a very nice animation in McCay’s style. Check it out. (McCay’s work is available on DVD.)
