Football is not cricket

As a long-time supporter of Liverpool football club (I can remember their European Cup games against St. Etienne and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the late 1970s and once saw Keegan and Toshack play at Anfield: we won) it has been really distressing to see how far are the mighty fallen. Yes we have Torres, but Gerrard is not as good as he was, and Carra is near retirement.

Most problematical though is the ownership saga. It’s clear that the American owners wish to sell, but due to their debt incurred in the down economy, they keep asking too much and scaring away potential buyers. Already this season interest has been touted from a Hong Kong businessman, as well as interest from the Middle East. But now that’s gone.

But hey, at least it’s not Test cricket vs. Pakistan! No ball!
