Elden reviews Leçons sur la volonté de savoir

Stuart Elden has a good review up of the French language edition of Foucault’s first lecture course, Leçons sur la volonté de savoir. (Stuart estimates an English language edition won’t be available until at least 2013.)

I’m particularly looking forward to these lectures because they provide a surprising (to me) early encounter with Greek thought. Far from this being something of the early 1980s and the “later Foucault” it appears there were some pretty serious readings from the beginning (1970-1).

Stuart mentions also a longer lecture, due in September, that will discuss this period more extensively. On a personal level I’m also looking forward to his visit here at the University of Kentucky next spring!
